About
Maria Phillips is an artist, educator, and Co-Manager of the Recology King County Artist in Residence Program in Seattle, Washington.
Phillips’s practice is rooted in environmental consciousness and sustainability, centering on the repurposing of materials sourced from her immediate surroundings and remnants of daily life. In an age defined by excess and disposability, she reveals the latent potential within discarded objects, transforming them into works that challenge conventional ideas of value, permanence, and waste. Through processes that mirror natural cycles of accumulation and decay, Phillips explores repetition, pattern, and transformation—highlighting the beauty of the overlooked and underscoring the interconnectedness of material life and ecological responsibility.
